I am a leaf on the wind; watch how I soar.
"September and October are always the worst," Rudebacher says dreamily. "You just hear it calling. The birds hear it, too, and go."
"It?"
Rudebacher gives him a look that says don't be stupid. "With them it's the sky. Guys like us, it's the road. Call of the open fuckin road. Guys like me, kids in school and a wife that still likes it more than just on Saturday night, they turn up the radio a little louder and drown it out. You're not gonna do that."

the road... in this meaning - never meant for me so much.... cause i am... a lazy ass may be...
This "highways in the hiding" thing in that book is pretty much about the worlds that are right there next to ours, slightly different, unseen by most. It's such an appealing idea because I've always had this same thought. This same understanding of how "other worlds" should work.
... then anothe thing... wasn't there kind of this idea in the Chronicles of Amber?
Well, isn't longing for adventures ultimately called to life by this very dream of other worlds (that other universe u were speaking about)? Isn't this dream the core and the heart of every adventure? And if yes, what's so very different between longing for another world that lies just a step away and longing for a road under your feet?

Idea, yes, partly. But not the form, neither the way of telling. King is way, waaay different from Zelazny. His story is so real that it is almost palpable. As you read you are pretty sure it could happen. Could be, in fact, happening right now. But then again, there's a matter of personal perception.
But in a way, yes, they are about the same thing, in very general sence. But, well, the whole world is the same story, ain't it? The same old story, happening again and again, revolving itself round and round and round again.
